West York Head Wrestling Coach Brian
Gross

Head Coach Brian Gross
is looking to improve on last year's 3-13 dual record. Nine
letterman return for 2nd Year Coach Brian Gross and leadership will be a
key for success.
"As I start my second season as
head wrestling coach at West York, I am excited and
looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead," says Gross.
"This season, our wrestlers
will be competing in YAIAA Division I and I know that with hard work,
determination
and discipline, we will strive to be competitive." Gross points out that
the season starts at
the tough Newport Wrestling Duals on December 6, 2008. "My hopes are high
that we will
have our first winning season in quite some time," Gross says. "I also
welcome back a
very talented coaching staff with West York alumni, Wade Ginter and Justin Wilkins!"
Returning for the Bulldogs this season are seniors... John Morelli, Jon
Randolph, Nick Clingan
and Zack Louthian. The Bulldog juniors will be represented by Billy Randt,
Dillon Schwartzer,
Billy Heltzel and Alex George. The lone sophomore returning letterman is
John Riedel.
Randt, who this summer captured the PAWF Greco-Roman State title along with a
3rd
place finish in the PAWF State Freestyle Tourney, participated in the Fargo
Nationals.
Randt also finished 4th at the YAIAA Section V AAA Tournament at 135lbs.
Posting double
digit 07-08 wins included Dillon Schwartzer with 17, Alex George with 12, and
Billy Randt
and John Riedel, each with 10 wins in the
2007-08 season.
Kyle Miller, who graduated, also posted 17 wins in 2008-09.
"We have six sophomores coming up from the Junior High program and possibly two
freshman to compete for some open varsity spots," says Gross. Some new
names that
could contribute are Josh Kukorlo, Ryan Randolph, Dillon Mulroy, Tanner Landes,
Sal
Gillo
and Kyle Stauffer. Coach Gross had over twenty wrestlers sign up for this
year.
"We have already started an open mat on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, and the wrestlers are already working hard by running,
lifting weights and wrestling," Gross says. "We are anxiously awaiting the
start of the
season and we are ready to pack the gym like the Bulldog Wrestling days of old!"
West York will face tough competition as they enter Division I, but Coach
Gross continues
with his philosophy that battling talented teams and competing in season tournaments
such as the Newport Duals, Carlisle Tournament and the Governor Mifflin
Tournament...
prepares West York wrestlers for the post season individual contests.
