Junior High coaches
Brad Brosius, Chad Gardner and Bob
Crebs are anxious to start
the season and to step it a notch or two this year as we move up to Division I
of the
YAIAA. The coach’s goal is to have the kids work hard, learn a lot,
and have fun
while competing
against the best wrestlers in the area. The Junior High coaches will
be challenging each
wrestler to give their best effort in practice as we prepare for a
great season schedule with so many tough competitors. "By the end
of the season
we expect to have some
tough young men!" said
Coach Brosius.
Returning from last
year’s junior high team are 9th graders Alex Moyer, Bryce Love
and
Tim Althoff.
Returning 8th graders include Devin Sweitzer, Tony Strathmeyer,
Kyle
Welker, Adrian Campbell, Connor Daugherty, Denton Raab and Jacob Oliver who
came out late and didn’t get
to wrestle.
Some of the 7th graders moving up from
elementary this year include
Kyle Narber and Adam Raab.
The season starts out
with a bang as we travel to the Conestoga Valley Duals in
Lancaster County
on December 13th. This is a ten team dual meet tournament
where we
will wrestle five dual meets in one day. The tentative list of teams
entered
include: Conestoga Valley,
ELCO, Exeter, Halifax, Lower Dauphin, Manheim Township,
Palmyra, Pottsgrove, Warwick and West York.
Both Varsity
and JV wrestlers will get
plenty of mat time as they will have a separate
mat set up for JV wrestlers and with
five dual meets, some of the JV’s could also get some varsity
experience.
The following week
we open our league season with Spring Grove at home on
December 16th.
Spring Grove always has a good team; hopefully our five match
opening day will have us well prepared for
them. Over the Christmas break, we wrestle
in the tough Dallastown Junior High Tournament on
December 29th. This is a sixteen team
individual tournament that will allow our Varsity wrestlers to
compete for individual honors
as well as team honors. We have a big test in the middle of January.
In a one week period
we wrestle Dallastown, Red Lion, Dover and in the Cedar Cliff Duals.
We wrestle Dallastown
on
Saturday, January 10th, Red Lion on Wednesday, January 14th,
Dover on Thursday,
January 15th and the Cedar Cliff Duals on Saturday, January 17th.
We have no information
yet on the Cedar Cliff Duals
but with Cedar Cliff being in the tough Mid Penn Conference, it’s
almost
a certainty that it will be a challenging tournament with a format similar to
the Conestoga
Valley Duals. We
close out our league
season with South Western at home on January 22nd.
We then prepare
for the season ending, two day,
Wilson Tournament, near Reading, which may
be the toughest junior high
tournament in the State. It is essentially equivalent to senior high’s
District Tournament with the
toughest teams in District III! The 38 team field includes all the top
teams from the YAIAA, Central Dauphin,
Cumberland Valley, Lower Dauphin, Middletown,
Wilson, Governor Mifflin and Boyertown to name just a
few. "Hopefully, our beefed up schedule
this year will prepare us to bring home some medals from
the
prestigious 2009 Wilson
Junior High tournament."
said Coach Brosius.
"It
should be a fun and exciting year and the Junior High coaching staff is looking
forward to
working
with all of our dedicated young athletes that compete in the
most challenging sport
in
the world." said Coach Brad Brosius.
